Installation of plasterboard ceiling. Installation technology. Apartment repair
The system of a suspended ceiling provides a lot of opportunities both in the decorative design of the surface and in the constructional one. Installation is usually done from drywall panels, which look spectacular and stylish. Technologically, the installation of a plasterboard ceiling is advantageous in that it completely replaces the layer of plaster, provides noise insulation and allows you to carefully mask the wiring. If desired, in this design, you can embed modern LED-lamps, which are organically combined with a matte surface. However, to obtain the mentioned advantages of a suspended ceiling, it is necessary to observe the technology of its installation.
Apartment renovation and plasterboard ceiling
Usually, the ceiling is perceived as a detached surface, with no conjugate. Therefore, his finish put on the last place in the planned repair operations. But this approach is appropriate only in the case of tension structures, which leave behind not so much dirt. A rather painstaking installation of a plasterboard false ceiling is advisable to be done after electrical and plumbing work.
Then you can follow the principle “from top to bottom” - that is, after the installation of the ceiling is completed, the work on finishing the walls and laying the flooring begins. Carrying out repairs in reverse order, you can harm just laid coatings and cladding materials. But there is one more nuance. The fact is that the suspended structure is often used as a niche for holding cables and wires of electrical appliances and devices. Therefore, at the stage of implementation of the communication layout, this aspect should be taken into account.
What rooms is used in?
The suspension system can be used in any rooms. Restrictions are absent even for rooms with high humidity levels. In particular, the performance of some types of panels make it possible to use them in the design of bathrooms. No less impressive look ceilings from plasterboard in the bedroom, living room, rest room and other areas where it is important to create a cozy and comfortable atmosphere. This does not mean that such surfaces lose to analogues in practicality and technical qualities, but for drywall it is important that the situation is in harmony with its aesthetically smooth surface. Actually, for this reason, the suspended ceiling is actively used in the decoration of luxurious interiors of respectable hotels and inns.
What plates are used?
To perform the finishing using the suspended ceiling technology, gypsum boards are used, the thickness of which varies from 1.3 to 1.5 cm. The use of thinner panels is allowed, but due to their low strength it is necessary to make appropriate adjustments to the design. In particular, experts shorten the spacing between the carrier profiles of the frame so that the material does not sag. But the installation of the ceiling of plasterboard in the form of thick plates imposes its requirements on the technical implementation of the framework. In such cases, it is recommended to use a stiffer profile capable of carrying heavy material loads.
In order to increase the fire resistance of the ceiling or increase its noise insulation qualities, the panels can be installed in two layers. In the thickness of this lining can reach 2.5 cm, so it also requires a strong and reinforced base frame. Often used and curved plates. They produce original and beautiful gypsum ceilings that can create different spatial forms, as well as diversify the play of shadows and light, providing unusual visual effects.
The range of plasterboard should be carefully examined to select the most appropriate material for a particular room.
- Standard plates - mainly used for interior lining of premises in which dry and normal humidity regimes prevail. Sheets are marked in blue, and the material has a gray tint.
- Moisture-resistant panels - they are used in the bathroom and other rooms with high humidity. Protection against moisture is achieved through the special processing of plates, which also minimizes the risks of fungus and mold. The marking is also blue, but the sheets themselves are green.
- If there is a question about how to make a plasterboard ceiling in a room that requires high resistance to an open flame, then you should choose sheets with red markings. It is a gray or pink material with good fire resistance.
- There are also universal models of plates that combine the qualities of a refractory material, and protection from moisture. These sheets are green and red marking.
Depending on the composition and inclusion of additional elements, the design may include different approaches to installation. This refers to the choice of types of fasteners, the location of the components of the frame and the plates themselves, but in general the same principles are used, on the basis of which the installation of the ceiling of plasterboard is performed. The instruction in a step-by-step view includes the following operations:
- Layout for installing frame profiles.
- Making holes for fasteners.
- Fixing carrier profiles.
- Fixing plasterboard.
- If necessary - the decoration of the resulting surface.
Also during the installation, additional materials may be introduced into the design that provide thermal insulation and noise reduction.
Before directly installing the frame on the floors and walls it is necessary to apply the marking lines, in the directions of which it will be necessary to fasten profiles. On the ceiling basis, the axis of symmetry should be defined - this is the line that divides the surface into two parts. High-quality finishing of the ceiling with plasterboard is possible only if the exact position of the hangers, therefore, the corresponding lines should be indicated for them.
In the direction of the indicated contours to the overlap, suspensions are fixed - here it is important to observe the gaps between them, adjusting the optimum height. Lines are also drawn on the walls - they will be required for guide-type UD-profiles. Immediately it should be noted that the ceiling gypsum plasterboard also provides for the use of supporting profiles such as CD. In the event that the frame will be formed as a two-level, the marking on the walls for the main elements of the profile skeleton is higher than the contours intended for the bearing parts of the structure.
Installation of a single-level ceiling frame
The installation of the frame as a whole is elementary and requires only the correct fastening of its base. Single construction is fixed on the shortened suspensions. For this reason, the reduction in the height of the processed room will be negligible. After marking, the installation of a plasterboard ceiling begins, including operations for drilling holes and installing fasteners. This is required to install the suspensions. The most durable construction can be created with the help of steel expansion dowels, but it is important to consider the possibility of their integration into the material of a particular ceiling. For a wooden base, for example, fixing is best done with self-tapping screws, and in the case of hollow blocks for the grille, anchors should be used.
Installation of a two-level ceiling frame
The two-tier model is the most common because of its obvious advantages. By the way, drywall ceilings in the bedroom are made according to this scheme, which provides a more attractive appearance of the room. In addition, they are more technologically advanced in installation and are distinguished by high rigidity.
The construction of the profiles is installed on the ceiling using the appropriate fasteners - the same screws, anchors or dowels. In low rooms, the frame should be fixed closer to the overlap, as this will allow maximum preservation of the optimum height in the room. Ideally, it is better to use fasteners, which will make it possible to install the frame at a distance of up to 125 mm from the floor surface.
Often there are questions about how to make a ceiling of plasterboard, which will mask the ventilation system box or a heat insulator from the mineral wool. In addition, it is worth adding the possibility of hiding the wiring, which was mentioned above. In such systems special suspensions are used with the possibility of height adjustment in the range of 150-1500 mm from the ceiling. The mounting of the suspensions is simple and is performed in the same way as in the case of profiles.
The plates should be fastened with screws to profiles with a bearing function. At the same time, in order to get beautiful drywall ceilings without external flaws and defects, it is necessary to provide that the fastener heads do not rest on the drywall. The installation of sheets can be performed both in a perpendicular position and in parallel with respect to the direction of the profiles. It is important to bear in mind that transverse fastening is beneficial in that it implies the highest resistance of panels to bending.
Also significant is the size of the gaps between the profiles. It has already been mentioned that the rigidity and strength of the structure depend on it. The distance between the profiles depends on the thickness of the plates and the direction of their installation. For example, if longitudinal installation of a plasterboard ceiling with a thickness of 1.3-1.5 cm is performed, the distance between the profiles should be 40 cm. For cross installation, the same parameter will be 55 cm, provided that panels with 1.5 cm thick are used . For refractory plasterboard sheets, this step is always 40 cm.
False ceiling decoration
The final finish of the plasterboard surfaces foreshadows the sealing of the joining places between the slabs and the putty. Then you can start painting. This is the only option for which it is advisable to design such surfaces, but the result is flawless, since the drywall has a flat and smooth surface. As a paint and varnish composition, it is desirable to use alkyd enamel or water-based emulsion.By the way, if the installation of a two-level gypsum ceiling was carried out, then the decorative effect can be enhanced by using different colors. As a working tool, it is recommended to use a roller, which will ensure uniform coating.
How much will it cost to install a suspended ceiling?
Prices are very different, because there are many technical subtleties when performing different designs. Specific tariffs depend on whether the ceiling is one-level or two-level, on the area of the room, materials used and installation means. On average, the cost of installing the ceiling of plasterboard is 300-500 rubles / m2. If you also plan to introduce into the design of LED lighting devices, the cost can rise to 100-200 rubles. The highest costs require the installation of three-level ceilings of non-standard forms. For such work, experts charge up to 800 rubles / m2. The simplest Armstrong structures are the most affordable (about 300 rubles / m2) and easy to install.
